Saying Farewell to Our Dear Friend, Amy Toll Bork

On June 10, 2010, the American Rabbit community lost its dear friend and champion when Amy Toll Bork died in a tragic automobile accident in Dodge, Wisconsin on her way to work. Amy's infectious happiness made our lives a bit brighter, and the effects of her service will be remembered for years to come.

Amy's contributions to this club Amy and Ken stopped at Wodburn, OR. American Drift 2010. Picture by Tenzicutwere great despite the relatively short tenure of her service. Amy stepped in as our Secretary when the previous Secretary had to resign. She set right to work on publishing the club's newsletter, organizing our membership list, and writing our club report for Domestic Rabbit magazine (something she had been doing already). However, her most memorable contribution will be as the driver, with her husband Ken, of the Western Loop of the American Drift 2010. Amy's selfless service in this effort, and the ever-positive attitude she kept throughout, despite being crowded with nearly 90 rabbits in her mother's van, showed her true-colors. Not only did she help spread the joy of raising American rabbits, she infected dozens of breeders with her happiness, humor, and service-mindedness.

Aside from those of us who wished to have known her better, Amy left behind her dear husband Ken. At the end of their bunny-laden road trip, Amy confided in me that the Drift was her first vacation with Ken since they were married over a decade earlier. While many may not consider shuttling rabbits nearly 6,000 miles a vacation, it was this, her perspective on life, that should give us solice in remembering her.

Forever an optimist, Amy will be remembered for her big smile, her kind words, her patience, and her service. I am grateful to have been touched by her light. My greatest hope is that she may rest in peace, shining down comfort on those she's left behind.

Amy, you will be missed.

I would like to offer my sincere thanks to everyone who has helped bring the Breeders of the American Rabbit, N.S.C. to life. While an endeavor like this is never easy, nor is it always universally popular, I believe it has been worth it.
